United for Justice and Democracy
Information
GBUN aims to promote unity and solidarity among Bangladeshis and allies across the world, while advocating for democracy, secular governance, and social justice in Bangladesh. It is committed to preserving the historical memory and progressive values of the Liberation War of 1971, raising international awareness about human rights violations, repression, and the erosion of democracy in the country, and strengthening connections to support diaspora communities, human rights defenders, and civic actors both within Bangladesh and abroad.
Membership & Governance
Membership is open to all individuals and institutions aligned with GBUN’s values, provided they uphold nonviolence, inclusivity, secularism, and democratic conduct, with categories including individual and institutional members such as NGOs, advocacy groups, and student bodies. Governance is carried out through an elected Executive Committee responsible for leadership and operations, an Advisory Council of respected global figures, scholars, and activists providing strategic guidance, and a General Assembly of all registered members that meets annually to decide key matters. All members are expected to maintain respect, tolerance, and democratic engagement, refraining from hate speech, sectarianism, violence, or discrimination, with violations subject to review and possible expulsion by the Executive Committee.
Our Activities & Funding
GBUN pursues its mission through global campaigns, webinars, conferences, advocacy events, strategic partnerships, policy briefs, reports, media content, and educational materials, engaging actively with the UN, international NGOs, academic institutions, and the press. Funding comes from member contributions, donations, grants, and partnerships, with strict financial transparency ensured through annual reports and audits, and all expenditures guided by the mission and ethical standards of the organisation. United under the motto “Stronger Together, Beyond Borders: Global Bangladeshis United for Justice and Democracy,” GBUN stands as a platform for global solidarity and progressive change.
